VNDLY: Capturing SOW Spend within an MSP Programme – the Greatest Challenge
Much has been spoken and written about the benefits of managing SOW spend through a Vendor Management System (VMS), whether via an MSP or a self-managed programme. The Levels of SOW spend are estimated to be several times the spend on traditional contingent labour, providing huge potential for cost savings, process improvements, and quality and compliance benefits.
However, despite the promise, many organisations struggle to be able to capture SOW spend within the programme in the first place. Uptake of SOW spend management is often very poor.
There is a unique benefit to organisations who use Workday HCM together with the Workday VNDLY VMS when it comes to addressing this issue, which is changing the face of many of our programmes. This is because VMS’s have never been rolled out as the single source of truth (the “system of record”) for most organisations. They are often rolled out initially in one division, one department, or one country. However, organisations who have rolled out Workday HCM do indeed use it as their “system of record” for their entire workforce.
When organisations roll-out Workday HCM, they typically integrate with multiple downstream systems, including all provisioning systems (badge access, emails, network access etc). Because VNDLY integrates seamlessly with Workday HCM, once you deploy VNDLY it becomes the “system of record” for all of the non-permanent workforce (whether contingent or SOW). This is because there is no way to provision and onboard a new SOW without them going through the “system of record”. Without an individual passing through VNDLY and being automatically uploaded into Workday HCM, there is no mechanism for them to receive a badge or network access. In other words, holding the “keys to the kingdom” of provisioning enables an organisation to capture all of its non-permanent workforce, which then enables the MSP or the end customer to reduce cost and add value through effectively managing their SOW spend.
